Born in the Netherlands, Joke showed and interest in the arts from a very young age and could often be found with a paint brush or pencil in hand capturing the world around her. Her love of art was encouraged being raised in a home filled with music and creativity.
After marrying husband, Wim Dessing, the couple decided to move to South Africa in 1975 where they built a successful business and family together. With a background in financial management, Joke would spend the next couple of decades building and growing their business, Apex Strip Curtains & Doors, before rediscovering her love and talent for the arts later in life.
Joke’s art is characterized by vibrant colours and bold brushstrokes exploring a variety of themes, with a passion for capturing life in action through contemporary Portraits, Figure Paintings and Animal Paintings which showcase memorable moments and the beauty of life.
Drawing inspiration from lived experiences, striking images and memorable photographs, Joke is constantly experimenting with new ideas, mediums and themes which drive her passion. She also creates bespoke / commissioned art for clients capturing their special memories on canvas as unique works of art. Sharing her beautiful creations with others who value and appreciate her unique talent and style is an incredibly rewarding and life fulfilling experience.
